Insulin is not a cure for diabetes; it is a treatment. It enables the diabetic to burn sufficient carbohydrates so that proteins and fats may be added to the diet in sufficient quantities to provide energy for the economic burdens of life.

About
Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a chronic autoimmune disease. This means that it doesn’t go away. Anyone can be diagnosed at any age, though it usually is diagnosed in childhood or adolescence.
In T1D, the body’s immune system attacks the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. Insulin is an essential hormone that helps the body turn food into energy. People living with T1D must take insulin by injection or insulin pump to survive. Living with T1D requires extra work, but with the right support and information, you or your loved one can lead a fulfilling, active life.
With your support, we are helping to raise money to improve and change lives with type 1 diabetes, advancing breakthroughs on the way to cure the condition. No organization does more to improve the everyday life with T1D—from driving millions of dollars of global investment in therapy development and access to advancing research, advocacy, and community support.
BreakthroughT1D stewards every donation and maximizes its impact. In fiscal year 2023 (FY23), they drew $311M in additional funding and investments for T1D therapy, research, and development from partners in the private and public sectors.
Please consider donating to support our commitment to riding 103 miles through Death Valley this year for a very important cause.
